Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the rules, eligibility criteria, requirements, and judging criteria. This event will kick off at 12:00am PT on Friday March 27 and end at about 10:00pm PT on Sunday March 29.
Theme
The theme for this hackathon is "Community." This is meant to be very open-ended. Any which way you can relate your project to the concept of community is good.

What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a competition in which participants (in small teams or individually) build a software (and/or hardware) project in a fixed amount of time/
What is this hackathon all about?
This hackathon exists to give you and other OSU students & alumni the opportunity to build a project over a weekend and compete for prizes. It is meant to be low-pressure, inclusive of everybody, and fun!
I am new to coding. Can/Should I still participate?
In short, YES! No prior experience is necessary to compete in this event. In fact, there is a separate prize for teams of entirely new students to compete for. This event is a great time to learn a new technology or practice one you already know while simultaneously building a project you can showcase on your resume!
What can I make?
Anything you can think of! Web apps, mobile apps, websites, slackbots, APIs, command-line programs, games, robots, anything!
Prizes
Overall category: All teams consisting entirely of currently-enrolled OSU students are eligible
1st place: $150
2nd place: $100
3rd place: $75
New Student category: All teams consisting entirely of current students that took 161 or 162 in Winter 2020 are eligible
1st place: $75
Alumni category: All teams with one or more OSU alumni on the team:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place designations will be given to the top 3 teams in this category, but no prizes will be issued to any member of a team with one or more OSU alumni on the team.
Eligibility
- Hackathon participants must be current students or alumni of Oregon State University.
- Only teams consisting entirely of currently enrolled students are eligible to win monetary prizes.
Participation in BeaverHacks Spring 2020 constitutes your full and unconditional agreement to all rules, terms, and conditions of this event.
Requirements
- All members of each team must consist of current students or alumni of Oregon State University (see the Prizes section above for details about prizes available to teams of different make-ups).
- All members of each team must have registered on DevPost and must be added to the project submission.
- All submissions must be hosted on Github and the entire commit history must be present.
- Console application projects must showcase their project on repl.it and include a repl.it project link with their submission.
- Members of winning teams will be required to provide proof of current or past enrollment at Oregon State University using one of the methods outlined by the office of the registrar.
Prizes
$400 in prizes
First Place Overall
This prize is for the first-place overall winner of the competition. The prize will come in the form of Amazon gift cards after the winners are determined. Each team member will get one share of the $150 reward. For example, if a team of 2 wins first place, each contestant will receive a $75 gift card.
Teams that have one or more alumni team members are not eligible for this prize.
Second Place Overall
This prize is for the second-place overall winner of the competition. The prize will come in the form of Amazon gift cards after the winners are determined. Each team member will get one share of the $100 reward. For example, if a team of 2 wins first place, each contestant will receive a $50 gift card.
Teams that have one or more alumni team members are not eligible for this prize.
Third Place Overall
This prize is for the third-place overall winner for the competition. The prize will come in the form of Amazon gift cards after the winners are determined. Each team member will get one share of the $75 reward. For example, if a team of 3 wins first place, each contestant will receive a $25 gift card. Teams that have one or more alumni team members are not eligible for this prize.
First Place New Student
This prize is for the team in the "New Students" category with the highest score. Any team that wins either First Place Overall, Second Place Overall, or Third Place Overall will not be eligible for this prize. To be eligible for this prize, the entire team must consist of students that just completed either CS-161 or CS-162 at Oregon State University.
